Referencing
If you want to ease your life when writing a thesis or paper, you should use a referencing program. These are some sort of digital libraries filled with the literature you are currently reading and want to use. The two most commonly used applications are Zotero and Mendeley.
Plugin for Microsoft Word¶
They are both free to use and allow to use specific plugins to integrate the libraries into your text document. Fortunalty, Zotero already comes with an internal plugin for word documents. If you want to use Mendeley however, you will need to install Mendeley Cite seperatly. Using these plugins you can easily cite from your library and create your bibilography from those papers cited.
Browser Plugin for Quickadd¶
In order to easily fetch the literature you want to use into your library you can use Mendeley's Web Importer Plugin for Firefox. This way you can directly add the papers you brows to you Mendeley library. Zotero also allows this integration additionally for Chrome, Edge and Safari. Ofcourse both applications make it possible to also add the papers manually as a pdf document.
Zotero Notetaking¶
An advantage of Zotero comes with using notetaking apps such as Logseq or Obsidian. They allow to export all highlights from the papers in the Zotero app to the note taking app itself. This way one can quickly scan through the highlights and notes in one go without needing to reread the whole paper again. Further, these note taking apps allow to connect the information from the highlights into a bigger picture. For more information however, see the Logseq page.
