About the LMN Data Policy

The LMN is restricted to follow the data policy of the University of Marburg. This is why everybody who starts a project needs to make a data mangement plan, see this example.

Demographics

Especially personal data need to be handeled with caution at all times! The LMN saves personal data such as age, height, sex, etc. anonymously. This means that you should keep the participant's ID information seperate from all questionnaire files. Giving each candidate a pseudonym helps to keep the data sorted but avoids matching names to personal data.

Brain Data

Brain data are sensitive too. They need to be defaced before they can be stored on the HRZ server. Defacing is a way to make the data more anonymous, they should always be published in this format, if you want to publish them. Better even to only publish the preprocessed data. Raw data should only be distributed in very rare cases.

Data Storage

At the LMN we save our data on a seperate, safe and local disc for at least 10 years. The defaced, preprocessed data are transfered onto the HRZ server, together with the analysis scripts and research protocols. Study data in sheet form, including signed consent forms, are kept in nicely structured folders. These remain sealed away in a lockable cuboard.
